Just thought I would pass on some info that might help someone.
After years of m.e. diagnosis, I went back to my doctor with the normal 'I am sick and tired of being sick and tired'. She did some more blood tests not expecting anything to show, but one came back positive. It seems I have a vitamin B12 deficiency. Since having my injections, I now have to have one every three months, my brain has come back! and the awful bone pain in my lower legs has disappeared. The injections have helped a lot, although not solving other problems, it has helped me to come up a level.
I checked with my nurse and apparently I had never had a B12 test in all the time I had been diagnosed, which I consider a disgrace. And not one health professional had asked me, or suggested that I might have one! So I am letting you all know my story just in case it may help someone out there. Don't presume that just because the doctor has done some blood tests that they have tested you for B12. Check and get it done.It just may help.
hi lizsam
how do you go about asking unwilling doctors about this? my docs are totally fed up with me asking for help i think, its just easier to stay quiet and suffer Sad

If you are still feeling ill, do not be quiet, go back to the doctors and simply ask for a B12 test, quote my story if you lke. Do whatever it takes to get the test, it is inexpensive and easy, a simple blood test, and B12 injections are often used as a treatment for m.e. anyway, even without a low result. Go to your doctor, use any of this info and ask. Good luck and let me know what happens, we must keep going to get better. x
hi
ok i will go and see if the doctor will do that for me and i'll tell them what you've said, m.e at my doctors is treated like the mesh leaflets they pushed behind everything else Sad. I actually searched for one as i'm in the doctors most weeks and never seen them til i went to c.a.b, i found them !!!!! i cannot believe its been 5 years of me in and out of the doctors to see this leaflet there.

hi lizsam, just read your b12 mail, which is really interesting, how do you go about getting the b12 jabs, as i've got my 1st appt with proff pinching in may, which i'm grateful for coz i didnt think i'd get to see him so soon coz of back log. its bizarre why one dr. recognises and another doesnt, my dr. mentioned to me about b12 jabs, but didnt really go into it, maybe coz i had only just been diagnosed?
you mentioned a small cost for b12 blood test, do the b12 jabs cost money too, if so, how much would i be expecting to pay for it? thanks for posting this. much appreciated, darren

Sorry I disappeared off the radar for a while, have had some serious illness in the family to deal with.
Some doctors try B12 injections as a treatment for m.e. It is worth trying if your doctor will do it as it may help with some of the symptoms and you can't overdose on B12. I have one injection every three months from the doctor now, after having five 'loading injections over two weeks initially, which is free, but have bought some myself, they can be bought over the internet or over the counter in some countries, and inject myself.
You do need to be shown how to do this properly, from a health professional, but once you know, it is relatively easy. Hope this helps.Smile

Sharon, sorry I haven't been in touch, had major illness in the family recently.
Try another doctor!! My iron and folate levels were within the 'normal' range too, but my B12 was low, so what your doctor said was simply not true, we also had a doctor at our practice that said that, but I went to another and got tested, so not true, try another doctor, and when you get the result ask for the actual result (number) and the reference range, and note it down.
